Clay entered the ring as a six to one favorite against Logan, and won easily with a TKO in the fourth round after the fight was stopped due to deep cuts over Logan's left eye. A significant side bar to the fight was the beginning of Ali's friendship with Howard Bingham, a young journalist with a Los Angeles newspaper who was sent to cover the fight's press conference. After the conference, Bingham saw Ali and his brother standing on a street corner and offered them a ride, and he and Ali remain close friends 'til this day.
After he retired from boxing, Logan became a Boise, Idaho police officer and was said to be very popular with the kids on his beat.
