About Ernie Terrell

Died December 16, 2014
Career record: 46 wins (21 KO), 9 defeats
Terrell is nearly 6'7" tall but weighed just under 200 pounds when he boxed professionally. He's best remembered for his bout with Ali, one in which he was clearly outclassed and badly beaten. Ali won a lopsided decision to reclaim the WBA title that had been stripped from him after his agreement to fight a re-match with Liston and once again become the undisputed heavyweight champion. Terrell continued to fight until 1973 when he retired to begin a career as a music producer. Terrell's sister, Jean was the lead singer for the Supremes in the early 1970s, and also sang with Terrell's group "Ernie Terrell & the Heavyweights" in the 1960s. Terrell lives in Chicago where he promotes fights and remains active in charity and community service.
