Mildenberger was the European Heavyweight Champion from 1964 to 1968 and retained his title six times. He was the first southpaw to fight for the World Heavyweight title and frustrated the Champ during most of their fight in September of 1966. However, after a flurry of punches by Ali, the referee stopped the fight 1:28 minutes into the twelfth round and Mildenberger lost by TKO.
