In 1978 Ali, who compiled 56 wins and 37 knockouts during his career, experienced one of the most memorable evenings of his life at the Superdome on September 15th, when he defeated Leon Spinks in a 15-round decision to regain the heavyweight title for a third time. Historic note: it was the first time that anyone had won the Heavyweight Championship a third time. These white leather Mitre shoes, with Mitre manufacturer's red "M" logo on top and side of each, were used by Ali in his 59th professional fight against heavyweight champion Leon Spinks in New Orleans on September 15, 1978.
