Item # PR-3870
$5,000.00 |
Perhaps the rarest of all Muhammad Ali memorabilia, and the earliest known fight program from the first time he fought for the the amateur heavyweight Golden Gloves Championship on March 21, 1960 at Madison Square Garden. Only 2 of these programs are known to exist and this is one of them! Cassius Clay led the team that Chicago sent to New York for the inter-city showdown. His teammates included Daily News Golden Gloves Champions Pete and Nick Spanakos, and young middleweight Jimmy Ellis. Clay weighed just 172 pounds, but climbed into the ring against 232-pound Gary Jawish where he beat, battered and stopped the much bigger man in round three. A hard-hitting boxer named Shomo also made history that day when he captured the 135-pound open championship for a then unprecedented fourth time. In good condition, all 22 pages of information in tact, unscored, loose binding. March 19th, 1960 in Chicago Stadium.
