Muhammad Ali / Sonny Liston II Program
Item # PR-3944
$5,000.00 |
An original on-site program for Ali's first title defense and his first fight after converting to Nation of Islam and changing his name from Cassius Clay. The fight was originally scheduled for November 1964, but Ali was hospitalized with a hernia three days before, and the fight was postponed until May 25, 1965. This program was designed for the November fight but was also used for the rescheduled match-up 6 months later along with the Stephin Fetchit program. By this time, Ali had alienated many Americans who disapproved of his conversion to Islam and who believed his win in the first Clay/Liston fight was a fluke. Though Liston was the favorite going into the second match, Ali successfully defended his title and emerged the winner once again.
